The Anne Sullivan Centre is pleased to announce our 2nd annual CHARGE syndrome workshop with our guest speaker:
Grete Steigen from Norway
Location: The Maldron Hotel, Southern Ring Road, Roxboro, Limerick V94 EDP4
Professionals’ Workshop: Friday October 5th 2018, 1-4pm
Family Day: Saturday October 6th 2018, 12-3pm
Grete is mother of a 30 year old son who has CHARGE syndrome. She is a teacher at Skådalen school in Oslo for people who are congenitally deafblind and also, a farmer and former tourist host. Grete has been active in helping build professional networks around her son and been involved in the parent and family networks for people with congenital deafblindness. She has been the host of art courses addressing the specific needs and interests of persons with congenital deafblindness, as well as, being a main contributor for the local deafblind outdoor activity week for several years.
Grete will share her experiences working with people with CHARGE syndrome and congenital deafblindness on the importance of the sense of touch in developing communication, reducing social isolation and improving social connections. She will also share her personal story, as a parent, in raising her son to be himself and not allowing his syndrome to dictate who he could be or what he could achieve in life. Grete has presented at conferences around the world, and will be inspirational for all who attend.
The professionals’ workshop is valuable for all: classroom teachers, visiting teachers, SNAs, Social Workers, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Audiologists, Psychologists, Orthoptists, Ophthalmologists or anyone who is working with an individual with CHARGE Syndrome. We will have breakout sessions for you to meet and brainstorm with other professionals who have similar needs/concerns.
The family day will be valuable for all with a family member who has CHARGE syndrome. Please indicate how many children will be accompanying you and any special needs each of them may have.
