Description:
Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) is the national Sign Language Interpreting Service for Ireland.
They provide a referral service for people who use Irish Sign Language to find a qualified interpreter. They also support organisations in how to use an interpreter.
They provide an emergency service for medical and legal crisis and can arrange interpreters for funerals and some hardship cases. SLIS arranges interpreters for GP appointments for Deaf people with medical cards or GP visit cards, and pay for the appointments on behalf of the HSE.
SLIS also runs The Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS) which provides instant online video link access to a sign language interpreter. Advance booking is advised for this service.
SLIS is putting together a register of Irish Sign Language interpreters for people who are Deaf.
