Adapted sensory books project

The Anne Sullivan Foundation’s Outreach Services recently completed a pilot project with St. Teresa’s Special School in Ballinasloe and their local secondary school’s TY group. Nine girls from Scoil Mhuire received training from one of our Outreach Consultants on how to adapt books for children who are deafblind and each made a tactile book on a topic of their choice.
Last week, the TY students presented their books to the teachers at the school and the story is now featured in the recent issue of Ballinasloe Life Magazine. Many thanks to Anita O’Reilly, Principal of St. Teresa’s, and Angie Cusack, TY Coordinator at Scoil Mhuire, for taking on this pilot project!  The children at St. Teresa’s now have fantastic, high quality sensory stories to learn from.  If any schools are interested in participating in this programme in the 2021-22 school year, please get in touch with Deirdre for more information.
