What is Deaf/Blindness
The term Deaf/Blindness describes a condition which impairs the hearing and vision to varying degrees. Two sensory impairments multiply and intensify the impact of each other creating a severe disability which is different and unique.
All Deaf/Blind people experience problems with communication, access to information and mobility. Each Deaf/Blind person needs vary when age, onset and type of Deaf/Blindness are considered.
Deaf/Blind people require different services from those designed for either blind people or deaf people, as they are not able to use one sense to fully compensate for the impairment of the other.
